Jazz North’s Learning & Participation Manager, Helena Summerfield

Join our September online Educators’ Forum led by Helena Summerfield, Jazz North’s Learning & Participation Manager. The forum will give an overview of Jazz North’s L&P offer and explore the Learning Resources area of our website, which include free, downloadable resources designed for music educators keen to engage with jazz and improvisation. New resources just added include materials with an environmental and SEN focus. This forum is a space for all involved in music education to discuss your thoughts, network and learn more about the ways Jazz North can support you during the new academic year.

About Helena Summerfield

Since graduating from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in 1997, saxophonist Helena Summerfield has worked primarily in music education in a variety of mainstream and inclusive settings. Helena has experience of teaching music across Key Stages 1-4 and was the lead jazz tutor at Trafford Music Service when they received the 2021 Will Michael Jazz Education Award.

Helena has project managed Jazz North’s Jazz Camp for Girls since 2018 and was awarded Jazz Educator of the Year at the 2022 Parliamentary Jazz Awards in recognition of this work. Helena has continued to be an active performer around her teaching commitments and was a Northern Line artist in 2013 as a member of the saxophone quartet HSQ+. More recently Helena can be found playing saxophone, flute and clarinet in the Manchester-based bands NGUVU, Ain’t Misbehavin and Mike Hall’s Boplicity.
