On Sunday five young musicians from Bradford based quintet Take Four and a Half spent the day receiving practical mentoring with Manchester based saxophonist / educator Iain Dixon as part of the Jazz North Introduces scheme.
Take Four and a Half started as a school based band playing jazz standards at Beckfoot School, Bradford about two years ago. All of the music is arranged by the band members and they’ve clocked up performances at school events and local concerts including the opening of ‘Brassed Off’ at the Alhambra Theatre and during ‘Le Grand Depart’ for the Tour de France. They have also taken part in the National Festival of Music for Youth.
Take Four and a Half is Jake Jones, Chris Adsett, David Adsett, Jude Connolly, Greg Williamson.
The Jazz North Introduces panel was impressed with the band’s arrangements including Chick Corea’s tune ‘Spain’ and their attention to detail and strong ensemble playing. Certainly five young musicians to watch out for.
