The artists are picked from the best jazz talent the north has to offer and chosen by an independent panel of jazz industry professionals, promoters, and musicians.
Jazz North has a commitment to diversity and accessibility for artists and audiences alike and we believe that it is important that audiences and promoters have access to a wider cultural offer. It is therefore important to us that northern line presents a varied roster of artists that fully represents the diversity of the northern jazz scene. Jazz North is a partner in European Jazz Network’s Gender Balance manifesto and supports Arts Council England’s Creative Case for Diversity.
Applications for Jazz North northern line open once a year for artists and ensembles with a commitment to living, working, or studying in the north of England.
Once you are on the scheme you can benefit from subsidised gigs at high-profile music venues and jazz festivals in the north, mentoring from industry professionals and support developing your career.
Recruitment for the next round is still paused for the moment. We want to honour the time left on the scheme for our current artists and stay true to the original aspirations to support and unite artists, promoters and audiences. This means, rather than shifting online, the current round has been extended to let artists get back to playing live music in 2021. We are here if you have questions.

Did you know we offer subsidy if you book a northern line artist for your venue or festival?
Bookings for Round 7 of northern line are now back open and we’ve made some amendments to help support artists and promoters through the next year. From 1st April 2021, promoter subsidy is set at 30% of the artist fee and we have a new policy to take live-streaming into account. For more information on booking artists, including our new policy and streaming guidance, please email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
