Our last Artist Development Day was delivered in partnership with Lancaster Jazz Festival and took place at the festival in September 2019. Dedicated to offering insight and support to artists at every level, the day gave artists the opportunity to focus on their craft and learn key knowledge to help them develop their careers.
The programme was inspired by our conversations and evaluations with artists across both Jazz North and Lancaster Jazz Festival’s year-round artist development work and looked like this:
A promoter panel – Heather Spencer, Daniel Garel and Harkirit Bopari – answered questions from artists on their approach to programming, what they look for in an artist and how best to grab their attention in a competitive market.
Rebekah Few from BAPAM: British Association for Performing Arts Medicine www.bapam.org.uk led a discussion on the challenge of maintaining a healthy work/life balance with a musician lifestyle.
One to one sessions were available with representatives from Arts Council England, Help Musicians UK, Jazz North and marketing experts.
An artist networking session, led by Faye McCalman as our artist host, encouraged artists to meet each other and share knowledge, challenges and experiences.
We hope to bring more Artist Development Days to you very soon.
