In 2013, a pilot project ‘Brass Fusion’ took place with New York Brass Band (NYBB) and Spennymoor Youth Band (SYB). The project enabled young brass musicians in County Durham to work with jazz musicians in a series of workshops and rehearsals that led to an exciting joint performance at Brass 2013 (see video).

This year NYBB will be working with the Blackhall Youth Band and this will lead to a joint performance on Sunday 20th July at Castle Eden Village Hall. The project partners will be BRASS, Jazz North, New York Brass Band, Blackhall Youth Band, Castle Eden Village Hall and Northern Regional Brass Band Trust (NRBBT),

About Blackhall Youth Band
BYB has been established since 2005 and run two lessons on a Tuesday evening firstly for beginners who then filter into our main band. The main band is currently made up of 10 members, (5 cornets, 2 tenor horns, 1 trombone, 1 baritone and 1 euphonium) and the students ages range from 10 to 15 years. They also have 5 beginners (aged 6-9 years) who play cornets and tenor horns, who will hopefully join the main band in the future. BYB have played several concerts in their community such as churches, community centres and Asda foyer.
