Jazz in Outside
and Unusual Spaces
Holmfirth Arts Festival commissioned the exciting ‘Ancient Waters’ project featuring collaboration between Arun Gosh and artist Fabric Lenny.
This project strand is all about getting jazz performances in front of audiences who wouldn’t normally go to a jazz gig. This strand builds upon the ‘growing audiences’ work undertaken by Manchester Jazz Festival (mjf) and Hull Jazz Festival (HJF). Both festivals have been successful in achieving large audience numbers at outdoor events. Jeremy Davies of Root Music been working on behalf of Jazz North on JiOaUs and there have been two pilot projects so far in 2014.
Holmfirth Arts Festival
Ancient Waters was an exciting new collaboration between musician Arun Ghosh and artist Fabric Lenny commissioned for the opening weekend of the Holmfirth Arts Festival 2014. Culminating in a live after-dark performance along the river in central Holmfirth, Ancient Waters blended music and live projection to create a spontaneous flow of imagery and sound, celebrating and echoing the landscape of the Holme Valley. Throughout the two 20 minute performances, live drawing and animation responded to live music which tapped into ancient melodies, rhythms and rituals. www.holmfirthartsfestival.co.uk
