Jazz in Outside and Unusual Spaces
Darlington’s ‘Head of Steam’ Railway Museum became a jazz venue with an outdoor free stage at the 2014 Darlington Jazz Festival as a JiOaUs partner.
Darlington Jazz Festival were a partner under our Jazz in Outside and Unusual Spaces pilot programme in 2014. This project strand is all about getting jazz performances in front of audiences who wouldn’t normally go to a jazz gig. This project was led by Jeremy Davies, Root Music, on behalf of Jazz North and it enabled DJF to add a new outside free stage featuring 7 artists at Darlington’s ‘Head of Steam’ Railway Museum as part of their festival programme. Featured artists included three northern line artists – The Slowlight Quartet, ACV, Djangologie, plus Jazz In My Pants, Tyne Valley Big Band and Alter Ego.
