15 girls attended our summer jazz camp in Sefton run in partnership with the SOUND! Music Hub. Sound! Music Hub covers the areas of Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens and Warrington. It is part of a national network of 43 music hubs which are dedicated to providing music education and opportunities to young people across the UK.

The camp was led by Jazz North team member Helena Summerfield and ably supported by Jane Edgar from Sefton Music Service. Speaking about the camp Helena said:

They were a really enthusiastic group of young musicians and up for trying new things. Over the three days the girls learned tunes aurally, explored improvising, created graphic scores and composed a piece of music together. It was lovely to see the way they made new friends and supported each other.

What I like about jazz camp is you get the opportunity to improvise without getting judged
