How is New Northern helping Stockport Jazz to diversify their programming?

Ed Kainyek Quartet at Stockport Jazz with Tim Franks (drums), John Sandham (bass) and George King (piano)

New Northern support has been of great help to Stockport Jazz, allowing us to diversify our programming, raise our profile in the North and develop links with similar organisations within the region and beyond.
— Paul Hartley, Stockport Jazz

Stockport Jazz were one of seven organisations awarded a New Northern bursary in 2025. The New Northern scheme highlights promoters that are actively making a difference to the northern jazz scene by championing emerging talent.

Stockport Jazz operates on a voluntary, non profit making basis and their New Northern bursary enabled them to promote performances by two emerging bands, reducing the associated financial risk whilst providing an opportunity for these burgeoning musicians to develop their performance skills in front of a receptive and supportive audience.
