Do you want to be a leading part of transforming the Northern Jazz Scene?

We are recruiting for a voluntary CHAIR to lead our BOARD OF TRUSTEES during an exciting time for jazz music in the North.

Jazz North is the Strategic Development Agency for jazz in the North of England founded in 2012. The organisation recently has undergone a transformation in its senior management team with the appointment of a new CEO.

The Jazz North mission is to:

  1. Enable a thriving northern jazz scene – Supporting sustainable careers for a sector that is actively engaged and inspired
  2. Champion the excellence of northern jazz on national and global stages – Raising the profile and reputation of the northern scene
  3. Inspire a curiosity and love for jazz – Delivering activity relevant to the diverse, multi-generational communities of the North

The Chair will: 

“We are at a pivotal point in the development of the northern Jazz scene, bringing in new artists, promoters and audiences. The scene is at the crucial stage of developing a new generation whilst celebrating the identity and success of the region. We are looking for someone committed to creating a global name for the sector”.  Chris Bye, CEO Jazz North

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of charity management and good governance and will be able utilise their extensive experience, effectively managing board level discussions resulting in collaborative decision making which supports our beneficiaries and drives the charity towards its strategic aims.

Term: Initially for a three-year term renewable for an additional three years. The position is not remunerated but reasonable travel expenses can be paid. 

We require commitment to the time necessary to undertake the post which will fluctuate in line with board and sub committee meetings, CEO 1:1s and occasional attendance at Jazz North events. This equates to roughly 20 days per year. Jazz North holds 4 board meetings a year remotely via Zoom, one full-day strategy day and some ad-hoc subcommittee work. 

The recruitment process is open to everyone however we want our board to actively reflect the communities which we support and their lived experience. We are proactively seeking and encourage applications from under-represented groups in the sector which include Black, Asian and ethnically diverse people, women and also those who consider themselves to be D/deaf, disabled and neurodiverse.
