The fine summer weather drew out the crowds to the Manchester Jazz Festival on Monday 21 July and the Jazz North Northern Line showcase day. Over 7,000 people came into the Thwaites Festival Pavilion area during the event in which 12 bands performed over 11 hours. From the midday start with The John Ellis Trio, the pavilion marque tent had capacity audiences with standing room only.
Similarly the St Annes Church, venue for the more acoustic performances of Unfurl and Adam Fairhall, was also well attended. Later in the day a long cue snaked outside Matt & Phreds hoping for a chance to squeeze in and catch Dread Supreme and their unique mix of Jamaican music with British and American Jazz.
