Jazz North Introduces winners 2014 – The Jam Experiment

The Jam Experiment
“Winning ‘Jazz North Introduces’ has given us a HUGE step up – one which many young artists deserve but are not fortunate enough to have. The mentoring from the amazing Mike Walker has been as inspiring as it has helpful (the two go hand-in-hand). I have learnt that there is no substitute for getting out there and performing; without Jazz North I would have less experience and therefore far less knowledge and ability at what I do.”

Take Four and a Half
“Our time with Iain Dixon was amazing, and we all learnt enormously as a band. We learnt what we needed to improve our ensemble, and gained a unique insight into what it took to become a jazz musician. We can now use the knowledge we gained to improve our playing, and hopefully get more gigs and improve our band.

Individually we also each learnt about how to practice jazz, and what is expected from us if we were to become musicians. We also developed skills in our theoretical knowledge, learning about jazz harmony and performance, so we feel we can keep and use the skills learnt to develop as solo musicians, as well as a group.”

What the festival promoters said…

John Quail, Marsden Jazz Festival
“We were very impressed by Jam Experiment’s gig on the Marsden Jazz Festival’s New Stream programme. New writing, tight playing and a frightening technical ability given their relative youth. Alex Bone (sax) and Tony Comeau (keys) in particular are destined for great things…”

Geoff Matthews, Jazz on a Winter’s Weekend festival, Southport
“The guys were a joy all round and made a big impression on our guests and critics present.”

Dave Shooter, Lancaster Jazz Festival
“The Jam Experiment closed the night with a mature and tasteful set that would have been worthy of significantly more experienced musicians. They play with a maturity and understanding that can only leave you excited as to the prospect of just how good will they get!!!”

Neil Campbell, Liverpool International Jazz Festival
“So wonderful to see such staggering talent and potential in such a young band. I am sure they will go from strength to strength.”
